Mt. Koya, or Koyasan, is the home a sect of Japanese Buddhism called Shingon. The area was first settled in 819 by the monk Kukai and his followers when he established the first temple there. Besides learning about the historical and religious significance of spots around Mt. Koya like Okunoin, a vast, atmospheric Buddhist graveyard which leads to the sacred mausoleum of Kukai (renamed Kobo Daishi in death), visitors to Mt. Koya can also enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings and fresh mountain air.

Itinerary
9:40 a.m.
Assemble at Swissotel Nankai Osaka (hotel). The assembly point is on the 6th floor at the bell desk. Swissotel can be accessed directly from Namba Station.
Lunch
Have lunch at the Ichinohashi Tourist Center.
Okunoin
Okunoin is the most sacred site for Daishi worshippers. It houses the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi, and the promenade approaching the main temple complex is also the largest cemetery Japan. This beautiful and atmospheric collection of graves and monuments is a must for any visit to Koyasan.
Danjo Garan
Danjo Garan is one of the two most sacred sites of Mt. Koya alongside Okunoin.
Around 6:00 p.m.
The tour disbands on arrival at Nankai Namba Station.
