Buying Japan Rail Passes while already in Japan?

    Hi there,
I am already in Japan and have just found out about the Japan Rail Pass. Is it still possible to purchase them and have them delivered to Japan?

    Buying JR Pass in Japan

    Yes, Absolutely!

Although you are not able to purchase the Japan Rail Pass in Japan from a Japanese agent, you can buy a pass through our website and we can send it directly to you in Japan.

What about the billing and delivery address difference?

Even though we ask for your delivery address to be the same as your billing address for security reasons, this does not stop the order from being processed correctly, so you are welcome to use your address in Japan for the delivery and your UK address for the billing.

Which delivery method should I choose?

The best method for sending JR Passes to Japan is by using a company called Yamato, which is an efficient and secure Japanese courier company. You can choose this method from the available delivery options while making your booking. The cost is £19.99 and is delivered in 5-10 days.

    What about the departure date?

The departure date is for our reference in order to assess the urgency of each booking and to make sure that each pass is used within the 3 month validity period. If you are already in Japan, please enter the date that you wish to start using the pass. (This will not be when your passes start as you can nominate that yourself!)

Can I ask a friend to bring the passes to Japan with them?

Yes, if you are already in Japan and are meeting a friend there at a later date, you can purchase the passes through our website and ask your friend to pick them up and bring them to Japan with them.

Please clear up a minor confusion: you say that the JR rail pass has to be purchased before arriving in Japan, but you also say that the JR Eastern region pass can be purchased only at the airport.
Please confirm that when I arrive at Narita I can purchase my JR Eastern Region pass without having made a payment whilst still in the UK.

Hi, the Main Japan Rail Pass which is valid over all of Japan can ONLY be bought outside of Japan.

However, all the other regional passes such as the JR East Pass are now available to purchase directly in Japan, so you do not need to make any arrangements before your departure.

    I hope this helps.
