    Japanese Snow Monkeys

Hi, where is the best place in Japan to see the famous snow monkeys bathing in the hot springs?

    In Nagano Prefecture

The Japanese Macaque, or Snow Monkey is a species native to Japan and is the only monkey in the world to live in such cold temperatures. As the areas they inhabit are snowy but with plenty of hot natural springs, like humans they enjoy a nice dip in the springs to keep warm!

They can be found mostly at Yudanaka and Shibu Onsen which are located in Yamanouchi Town in northern Nagano Prefecture. Have a look for Jigokudani Yaen Koen or “Jigokudani Monkey Park” where some hot springs are strictly “Monkeys Only!”
