Immediate activation of JR Pass necessary?

Hi, I will be in Japan for two weeks and want to spend the second week travelling around with a 7 day Japan Rail Pass. Does the JR Pass start from the day I arrive in Japan or can I specify the start date?

You can choose the start date!

You can start using your Japan Rail Pass from any date which you nominate yourself. As long as this date is within three months of purchasing the JR Pass, you can choose any date which suits you to begin using the pass.

When to validate the Exchange Order

It is possible to validate your original Exchange Order when you arrive at Narita Airport and have the full JR Pass start a week later when you wish to actually start using it.
Alternatively, you can validate the Exchange Order the day you wish to start using the JR Pass. Please check the official JR website for a list of all the stations where you can validate Exchange Orders.
