New Immigration Rules for Japan 20/11/2007
We thought we should just let everyone know that from today Japanese Immigration rules are changing. All foreign visitors over the age of 16 will now be required to be fingerprinted and photographed before being allowed entry into the Country. Those that refuse will be denied entry to Japan. I suppose this brings Japanese Immigration in line with that of the USA, and while it’s a minor inconvenience, it shouldn’t add much time to your journey.

Have just returned from a cruise with Princess. There were some 2,500 passengers and because we left Japan to go to China we had to go through the process twice as they would not issue a double entry permit unlike China. We had to queue for literally hours as they only provided two people to deal with 2500 people and then the second time we had to go through the process they added thermal imaging for all passengers. Seven of them stood behind this camera with face masks on as we trudged past! We were obviously a serious risk! If they want tourists to visit them and spend money they are not going the right way about it.
To be honest I dont think the Japanese really care about if people want to visit or not. Ill still go even if I have to que, not fussed last time I went had to que for hours as always on entry anyways. Should see the paperwork for actually getting a work visa its a minefield!!! Thats Japan for you, part of the reason im going out there to live to be quite honest.
You say you were a serious risk, well yes you might not have been but would you personally vouch for the other 2499 passangers!
