Do I need a visa for Japan?

Hi there, I have a Hungarian passport. Do I need a visa to travel to Japan?

    No visa neccessary

Many countries have “Reciprocal Visa Exemption Arrangements” with Japan which enables the nationals from those countries to enter Japan without a visa. Depending on the country, you are allowed to stay in Japan for a certain period of time provided you have a valid passport for the duration of your stay. Hungary is included in these countries and you can stay for up to 90 days in Japan without a visa.

    What about UK citizens?

All British citizens can stay in Japan for up to a period of 6 months with no visa arrangements being required!

What if my country is not on the list?

If your country does not have a visa agreement with Japan you need to organise a visa before your journey. You can find plenty of information regarding this at the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan website.

im wanting to know how difficult it is to get hold of a work permit in japan for someone wanting to get an office job or just a bar job etc??

    #2 Ayumi on 12.03.07 at 4:25 pm

Generally, as official work permits require a reasonable amount of effort to secure before arriving in Japan, it is unlikely that anyone will offer a work permit for a bar job.

It really depends on what job is on offer, but you are probably likely to find that only proper full time work will even consider offering you a permit.

Best to check with different companies before heading to Japan.

    HI There,

As a British citizen, a visa is not necessary for you to enter Japan and stay for 2 weeks. You are eligible to stay in Japan for up to 6 months without any visa being arranged prior to your departure.

    Thank you,
    Ayumi

I am a British citizen. Would I need a visa if I wanted to stay for a couple of years?

    #6 Ayumi on 02.01.08 at 10:24 am

Unfortunately, like it is mentioned above, you can only stay in Japan for up to 6 months without a visa!

    #8 Ayumi on 11.24.08 at 10:43 am

    Hi,
You will need to make sure that you have at least 6 months of validity on your passport to be able to enter most countries, including Japan!
Please check our post about it here:

    Hi,

Im a filipino, working with peacekeeping force with the United Nations in Kosovo. I will be going home to Philippines but planning to drop Japan on 13 Jan 09 and stay for one (1) week then go to Philippines, then back after twenty four (24) days then stay in Japan for three (3) days on 29 Jan 09 to 01 Feb 09 then fly for Kosovo, Europe on 02 Feb 09. Do i need a visa in such period of time?

    #10 Ayumi on 11.27.08 at 3:03 pm

    Hi there,

As The Philippines does not have a Reciprocal Visa Exemption Arrangement with Japan, you will need to make visa arrangements for your trip to Japan.

The easiest way is to check with your embassy as they will be able to provide specific details on how you can apply for one.
You can check a few more details on our website here:

    I hope this helps.
