US Military and Japan Rail Pass
I want to buy a JR Pass, but it says that you must have a visitor visa in your passport, Since I am US military stationed in Japan, can I use one?
Short answer: No
As the Japan Rail Pass is offered to foreigners to help promote tourism in Japan, only visitors with the correct Visitor Visa stamp will be able to validate their Japan Rail Pass Exchange Orders. This means that anyone in Japan with a “SOFA” or Status of Forces Agreement visa in their passport is unfortunately ineligible for the JR Pass as they are not in Japan for sightseeing purposes.
