There are two types of Japan Rail Pass: Green (for superior Green Cars) and Ordinary.
JR Pass ValidityThe Japan Rail Pass is valid for the railways, buses and ferry boats below: RailwaysAll JR Group Railways - Shinkansen super express (except "NOZOMI"), limited express trains, express trains, and rapid or local trains. Buses
FerryJR Ferry (Miyajima-Miyajimaguchi), except Beetle II (Hakata-Pusan) AccommodationMany JR trains have Green cars (superior accommodation); all have ordinary cars. With a Green-type Japan Rail Pass you can use either Green or Ordinary cars. With an Ordinary JR Pass, you may only use Ordinary cars without paying additional charges. Valid PeriodThe valid period of a Japan Rail Pass are 7, 14, or 21 consecutive days beginning on the date the pass is first used. You must specify, when you turn in your Exchange Order for your Japan Rail Pass, the date that you want to start using the Pass; It can be any date within three months from the date the Exchange Order was issued.
